This Privacy Policy explains what information Prof H Lab (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects when you visit https://profhlab.com (the “Site”), why we collect it, who else receives it, and how you can opt out.

The short version
You can read every article on this Site without giving us your name or your email address. We ask for an email address in exactly one place — the newsletter form — and only if you choose to fill it in. We do not sell personal information. Advertising and analytics cookies set by third parties are the main way data leaves this Site, and the sections below tell you how to switch them off.
Information you give us
- Email address, if you subscribe to our newsletter. It is used to send that newsletter and nothing else. Every issue has an unsubscribe link.
- Your message, if you email us or use a submission form such as Ask Prof H or Labs Recruiting. That includes whatever name and contact details you choose to put in it.
- Please do not send sensitive personal information — no medical records, account numbers, government identifiers or passwords. If you send them anyway, we delete them.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, this one records technical data when a page loads: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you viewed, the site or search that sent you, and how long you stayed. This comes through server logs, cookies and analytics tools, and we use it in aggregate to see which articles are useful and to keep the Site working.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file a site or its partners store in your browser. This Site involves three kinds:
- Necessary — needed for the Site to function and remember basic preferences.
- Analytics — used to count visits and measure which pages are read.
- Advertising — set by advertising partners, described in the next section.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Some features may not work properly if you do.
Advertising, including Google AdSense
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google My Ad Center (formerly Ads Settings).
- You can opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices, or for EU users at youronlinechoices.eu.
- Where third-party advertising vendors or ad networks serve ads on this Site, they may place and read their own cookies and web beacons. We do not control those cookies, and their own privacy policies govern them.
Opting out of personalised advertising does not remove ads; it removes the personalisation.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics and Google Search Console to understand traffic in aggregate — which pages are read, which searches lead here, which links break. Google’s own Privacy Policy and its description of how it uses data from sites that use its services apply to that processing. You can prevent Google Analytics collection with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Other services we rely on
- Hosting — our web host processes server logs to deliver and secure the Site.
- Email delivery — our newsletter provider stores subscriber email addresses and records whether an issue was opened.
- Embedded video — pages that embed a YouTube video load content from Google, which may set cookies when the player loads.
- Affiliate networks – none in use. We are not currently in any affiliate programme, so no affiliate network sets a cookie through this Site. If that changes, clicking such a link could let that network set one to attribute a later purchase, and we will say so in the article. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
What we do not do
We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not build advertising profiles ourselves. We do not use the email addresses on our newsletter list for anything except the newsletter, and we do not pass them to advertisers.
How long we keep things
Newsletter email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Messages you send us are kept as long as needed to answer them and keep a record of corrections. Analytics data is retained according to the provider’s default retention period. Server logs are rotated by our host.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — including under the GDPR in the UK and EEA and the CCPA/CPRA in California — you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to object to certain processing, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that count.
To exercise any of these rights, email profhlab@gmail.com. We will respond within the time your law allows, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
EEA and UK visitors
Where required, advertising and analytics cookies that are not strictly necessary are set only after consent, and you can withdraw consent at any time through your browser settings or the consent controls shown to you. Our lawful bases are your consent for advertising and analytics cookies and for the newsletter, and our legitimate interest in operating and securing the Site for necessary technical data.
Children’s privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
International transfers and security
Our hosting, analytics, advertising and email providers operate internationally, so data may be processed outside your country. The Site is served over HTTPS, and we limit access to what we hold. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy. The revised version is posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
