Is Anthropic Hiring Right Now? 571 Open Roles, +55 in Seven Days (Aug. 31, 2026)

Yes — and the number is unusually easy to check. On Monday, August 31, 2026 we counted 571 open roles on Anthropic’s own job board, 443 of them in the United States. That is 55 more than the 516 we counted on the same board exactly one week earlier, on Monday, August 24. The board itself agrees: its header read “571 jobs” on the day we checked.

But the interesting part is not the total. It is which roles moved. Of the 93 postings that appeared in those seven days, 29 were Sales, 17 were Compute and 11 were Finance. Three were AI Research & Engineering. And across the entire 571-role board, the number of entry-level titles — technician, apprentice, intern, new grad — is zero.

  • 29 of the 93 new postings are outside the US (11 UK, 6 Japan, 3 South Korea).
  • 96% of Anthropic’s US postings publish a salary range. Median band: $315,000–$405,000.
  • 0 entry-level titles on the board. If you are starting out, this is not your door.
  • Across all 20 AI and robotics boards we track: 3,705 open roles, up 46 on the week.

So is Anthropic hiring right now? The seven-day count

Every Monday morning we read the public job boards of twenty AI and robotics employers and save the result. That gives us something most “is X hiring” pages do not have: not a snapshot, but a difference. We match postings between the two Mondays by their individual posting URL, so a role that simply had its timestamp refreshed does not get counted as new. This matters more than it sounds. Anthropic, xAI and Waymo re-stamp their whole board most nights — if you trust the “posted date” on those boards you will conclude they publish hundreds of jobs a day. They do not.

Here is what the twenty boards did between August 24 and August 31.

Diverging bar chart of net change in open roles at 20 AI companies between August 24 and August 31, 2026, with Anthropic at plus 55 and Waymo at minus 18
Net change is new postings minus closed ones. Anthropic’s +55 is larger than the entire group’s +46, because most other boards shrank. Counted by Prof H Lab, August 31, 2026.

That is the sentence worth keeping: Anthropic’s net gain this week was bigger than the whole group’s net gain. Twenty boards together added 46 roles on balance. Anthropic added 55. Eight of the twenty shrank — Waymo down 18, xAI and ElevenLabs down 8 each, Cohere down 6. OpenAI, the biggest board in the set at 753 roles, finished the week net flat at −1, but that flat number hides 63 new postings and 64 closures. These boards churn far more than they grow.

What the 93 new Anthropic postings actually are

Group the week’s new postings by the team label each posting carries, and a strategy falls out of the data.

Bar chart of Anthropic's 93 new job postings by team: Sales 29, Compute 17, Finance 11, Applied AI 8, Security 7, Legal 6, AI Research and Engineering 3
Sales, Compute and Finance account for 57 of 93 new postings. AI Research & Engineering accounts for 3. Counted by Prof H Lab, August 31, 2026.

This is not what a research lab expanding its research looks like. It is what a company that has already built the product looks like when it goes to sell it. The geography says the same thing twice as loudly: 29 of the 93 new roles are outside the United States — eleven in the UK, six in Japan, three in South Korea, two each in Spain and Germany, and one apiece in Italy, France, Ireland, Australia and Singapore. Titles like Sales Director, Enterprise in Seoul, Head of Partnerships, Japan in Tokyo and Enterprise Account Executive — Energy & Utilities in London are the hires you make when you are opening a market, not when you are staffing a lab. CNBC reported the same direction in September 2025 under the headline “Anthropic to triple international workforce in global AI push”. What our count adds is that you can now watch it happen, posting by posting, week by week.

The second-largest block is quieter but just as telling. Seventeen new Compute roles — the team that builds and runs the machines. One of the week’s new postings is a New Product Introduction Sourcing Manager for Data Center Power & Cooling, listed remote-friendly in the US at $320,000–$405,000. Power and cooling. That is a job description from the electrical trades wearing a software company’s salary band, and it is the clearest single sign of where the money is going.

Is it hiring you? The honest answer

Here is the finding that will not appear on any careers page. We tagged every one of the 571 postings for entry-level markers — the words technician, apprentice, intern, fellow, new grad, associate, trainee, and any posting whose stated requirement is a high-school diploma, an associate degree or equivalent experience. The count came back zero. Not “a few.” Zero.

The lowest-paid US role on the entire board is a Business Development Representative at $116,480–$131,040 — a genuinely good salary, and still a role that expects you to arrive with a sales career already underway. So if you are switching into AI, or finishing school, or returning to work after time away, the accurate thing to say about Anthropic this week is: they are hiring hard, and almost none of it is aimed at you. That is not a criticism of the company. It is what the postings say, and knowing it saves you three weeks of applications that were never going to land.

The good news is that the entry-level doors in this industry are real. They are just at different addresses.

Where the entry-level AI jobs actually were this week

Across all twenty boards we found 76 entry-level US postings on August 31, up from 73 a week earlier. They are concentrated in a way that surprises people: 19 of the 76 are in Memphis, Tennessee, 13 in San Jose, 11 in San Carlos and 8 in San Francisco. By employer, xAI has 21, Figure AI 14 and 1X 13 — between them, 48 of the 76.

Most of the Memphis roles are data-centre operations: controls technician, fiber technician, facilities maintenance, mechanical and electrical commissioning. Most of them do not publish a salary, which is why the ones that do are worth writing down.

OpenAISite Operations TechnicianSan Francisco$157,000–$221,000Open
OpenAIPrototyping Lab Technician, RoboticsSan Francisco$225,000–$295,000Open

All eight verified open on the employer’s own board on August 31, 2026. Bands are copied from the posting, not estimated. Postings close without notice — the employer’s page is the only authority.

Look at that spread again. The same job word — technician — runs from $60,000 in Salem, Oregon to $225,000 in San Francisco. The title tells you almost nothing. The employer and the postcode tell you nearly everything. We took the Memphis cluster apart in what xAI actually pays in Memphis, and the route in through the trades in how to become a data center technician with no experience.

This is not a local quirk. Indeed’s Hiring Lab found the same shape at national scale in its July 14, 2026 analysis of the data-centre build-out: data-centre postings have more than doubled in two years, six of every 1,000 US job postings are now data-centre related (up from two per 1,000 in May 2023), and about a quarter of all data-centre openings are for installation and maintenance workers. Their pay finding is the one to remember — hourly data-centre roles carried a 42% premium over comparable non-data-centre hourly work, roughly ten dollars more an hour.

What the postings say about pay — and who refuses to say

Because we read postings rather than survey employees, we can only report what employers themselves publish. That turns out to be a story in its own right. Across the twenty boards, 2,136 of 2,927 US postings — 73% — name a salary range. The rest do not, and the split between the two groups is not what you would guess.

Bar chart of the share of US job postings that publish a salary range at 19 AI employers, from Mercor and Waymo at 99 percent down to Cursor, ElevenLabs and Physical Intelligence at 0 percent
Counted from the postings themselves, August 31, 2026. Boards with fewer than 30 US roles are excluded.

Waymo publishes a band on 99% of its 297 US roles. xAI publishes on 32% of its 234. Cursor, ElevenLabs and Physical Intelligence publish on none at all. Company size does not explain it, sector does not explain it, and state pay-transparency law does not fully explain it either — several of these companies advertise the same California and New York roles. It is a policy choice, made company by company. Treat a missing range as a question you are entitled to ask before the first interview, not a mystery you have to solve.

For Anthropic specifically: 427 of its 443 US postings publish a band. The median runs $315,000 to $405,000. Narrow to the 160 US engineering and software postings that carry a band and the median rises to $320,000–$485,000, with the highest bands topping out at $850,000. Those are cash bands as written in the posting, before equity. If you have seen a much lower “median Anthropic salary” on a third-party salary site, note that it can sit below the lowest band on the company’s own board — self-reported aggregator data and published bands measure different things, and only one of the two comes from the employer.

For the wider group the weekly move was small: the median posted band across all twenty boards went from $220,000–$302,000 on August 24 to $221,000–$310,000 on August 31. One week is noise. We publish it so that fifty weeks from now it will not be.

The tracker at profhlab.com/ai-jobs-tracker is refreshed every day with the same numbers, broken out by company, city, salary band and entry-level count. Journalists and newsletter writers are welcome to quote it with a link; if you need a cut we do not publish, ask us and we will run it.

What to do with this

  • If you are experienced and commercial — sales, partnerships, finance, legal, security — this is the strongest week Anthropic’s board has had in a month, and 29 of the new openings are outside the US. Start at their board, filter by your function, and apply within days: 38 postings came down this week alone.
  • If you are entry-level, skip Anthropic this week and look at Memphis, San Jose and San Carlos instead — xAI, Figure AI and 1X hold 48 of the 76 entry-level US postings we found. Our tracker lists them with that filter already applied.
  • Before you apply anywhere with no published band, write down the number you need. Eight of the nineteen boards we measured publish pay on 90% or more of their roles; you are entitled to ask the other eleven.
  • Check the date on any posting you found through us. We verify on the day we publish and not after. The employer’s own page always wins.

“Which AI company pays the most?” On published bands Anthropic’s median is the highest of the twenty, but the top single bands sit close to OpenAI’s. We took that apart in which AI company pays the most.

“How do I actually get into one of these labs?” The application mechanics differ more than people expect — see how to get a job at OpenAI or Anthropic. If you have no degree, national laboratory jobs without a degree and do you need a degree to be a robotics technician cover the two most reliable routes, and federal jobs with no experience covers the third.

“Are the remote ‘AI training’ gigs real?” Some are, many are not — are AI training jobs legit separates them. If you are worried about your own role, will AI take my job works through the evidence. Frequently asked questions

Is Anthropic hiring right now?

Yes. We counted 571 open roles on Anthropic’s own job board on August 31, 2026, of which 443 are in the United States — a net gain of 55 over the previous Monday, built from 93 new postings and 38 closures.

How many jobs does Anthropic have open in the US?

443 of the 571, as of August 31, 2026. San Francisco holds 327 of them, New York City 29, Washington 8 and Boston 7, with about 66 listed as remote-friendly.

Does Anthropic hire entry-level or no-degree candidates?

Not on the current board. We found zero postings carrying entry-level markers — technician, apprentice, intern, fellow, new grad, trainee — among all 571 roles. The lowest US band on the board, $116,480–$131,040 for a Business Development Representative, still assumes an existing sales career.

What does Anthropic pay?

96% of its US postings publish a range. The median across all 427 of those is $315,000–$405,000; for the 160 engineering and software postings with a band it is $320,000–$485,000, and the highest bands reach $850,000. These figures are copied from the postings and exclude equity.

Which AI companies are hiring the most right now?

By open-role count on August 31, 2026: OpenAI (753), Anthropic (571), Waymo (349), xAI (253), ElevenLabs (248) and Scale AI (217). By seven-day growth it is Anthropic (+55), Scale AI (+9) and Cursor (+8).

Where are the entry-level AI jobs right now?

Of 76 entry-level US postings across twenty boards, 19 are in Memphis, Tennessee, 13 in San Jose, 11 in San Carlos and 8 in San Francisco. xAI, Figure AI and 1X account for 48 of the 76. Most are data-centre or robotics operations roles rather than research roles.

Why does the posted date on some AI job boards change every day?

Anthropic, xAI and Waymo re-stamp most of their board nightly, so a role can show today’s date and still be months old. That is why we identify new postings by matching individual posting URLs between weeks rather than trusting the displayed date.

How do you count these numbers?

We read each employer’s public job-board feed directly — Greenhouse, Ashby or the company careers site — on the same weekday each week, save the raw result, and compare posting URLs between snapshots. We do not use aggregators. The full method is on our how we count page, and the daily figures are on the AI Jobs Tracker.

How to read anything we publish about jobs. We are not recruiters. We take no money from any employer named here, and there are no affiliate or sponsored links in this article. Every posting was open on the employer’s own domain on the date given — postings close without notice, and the official page always wins. We do not give visa, immigration or legal advice. Never pay to apply for a job, never deposit a cheque and wire money back, and a text-message offer is not an offer. More in our sources and safety notes.
