Is Scale AI Hiring? Yes, 188 Open Roles on Oct. 6, 2026, but Its Board Is Down 17% in Three Weeks
Yes: on October 6, 2026, Scale AI’s own job board listed 188 open roles, 144 of them in the United States, but that is 39 fewer than the 227 we counted on September 15. The company is still hiring every week. The board is just smaller than it was three weeks ago, and most of what is open is in government work, sales and engineering, not entry-level or remote jobs.
What we checked on October 6, 2026
Every day since August 22 we have read Scale AI’s public Greenhouse job board, the same list behind its careers pages, as part of our AI jobs tracker. For this piece we went further and read the full text of all 188 postings.
- 188 open roles on October 6: 144 in the US and 44 abroad (London, Doha, Mexico City, Riyadh, Dubai, Canada).
- 45 daily readings from August 22 to October 6 (no reading on September 18). Peak: 227 on September 15.
- 0 postings list “Remote” as the location. 16 say the work is remote in the posting text, and 14 of those are 1099 contractor fellowships.
- 120 of the 144 US postings publish a yearly pay range.
Written and checked by Prof. H. An AI assistant helped draft this piece and run the page reads; every count comes from the board readings on the dates shown, and every quote was read on the posting itself on October 6, 2026.

Is Scale AI hiring right now?
Scale AI was hiring on October 6, 2026: its board showed 188 open roles, and one new posting appeared between our October 5 and October 6 readings while five came down. That is a company still filling jobs, at a slower pace than in September.
The 188 jobs are spread across a lot of cities. San Francisco appears in 83 posting locations and New York in 75, often on the same posting. Washington, D.C. appears in 42, London in 25, St. Louis in 11 and Doha in 10.
Many of the open roles are not new. 104 of the 188 were first published before July 2026. One remote contract role, AI Strategy Consultant, has been on the board since September 13, 2024.

How fast has the Scale AI job board been shrinking?
From 227 open roles on September 15, 2026 to 188 on October 6, Scale AI’s board fell by 39, a 17% drop in three weeks. Before that, it had moved in a narrow band: 208 on August 22, then between 210 and 224 for most of September.
The steepest stretch came at the end of September. The count went from 221 on September 22 to 191 on September 30. Our own weekly report caught part of it: Scale removed 18 postings and added 7 in the week to October 5.
A shrinking board does not tell you why. It can mean roles were filled, paused or merged. Scale’s postings do not say, and we have no company statement about it, so we do not guess. Our guide to what it means when a job posting is taken down shows what those vanished links look like.
Does Scale AI hire remote workers?
Not as employees, judging by its board on October 6, 2026: none of the 188 postings listed “Remote” as the location, and the 16 postings that call the work remote are all contract roles. Fourteen are 1099 independent contractor fellowships. The other two are hourly contract jobs.

The two hourly roles state their pay. The AI Strategy Consultant posting reads “Pay: $60-80/hr” for a US-based, part-time role of 10 to 20 hours a week, “staffed via HireArt.” The Growth Recruiter, High Volume posting lists $40 to $55 an hour.
On the other side, 9 government-team postings spell out office or on-site days. The Deployment Strategist, DHS/DOJ role asks for the D.C. office “2-3 days a week.” Engagement manager roles in Honolulu, Colorado Springs and Omaha ask for 4 days a week on site with the customer.
This is where our count differs from some remote-job directories on page one of search, which describe Scale as remote for many roles. The employer’s own board did not show that on October 6. For companies that do list remote employee jobs, see AI companies hiring remote workers.
What is the Human Frontier Collective, and who can join it?
It is Scale AI’s expert contractor network, and on October 6, 2026 it had 16 postings, every one aimed at people with a PhD, MD, law training or about five years in their field. The posts cover finance, law, medicine, STEM, machine learning and software, with separate US, UK and Canada versions.
The STEM Fellow posting describes “a fully remote opportunity with no fixed end date” and says “This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement.” It also says fellows set their own hours and that “Most fellows spend 10–25 hours per week.” Pay is not on the posting; it says pay information comes with project matching.
Two Research Advisor postings in the same group, for the US and UK, do name a rate: “$300/hr. USD.” They ask for senior people, such as board-certified physicians and partners or senior counsel at large law firms.
If you are a beginner, these are not your door. They are useful to know about because they show what Scale pays for: expert judgment, by the hour, on contract.
Which Scale AI teams have the most openings?
Government work is the largest block on Scale AI’s board: 39 of the 188 roles on October 6, 2026 sat in public sector departments, and 37 postings mention a security clearance. Enterprise had 28, Gen AI 23 and GPS, Scale’s government team outside the US, 18.

| Department group | Open roles, Oct. 6 | What stands out |
|---|---|---|
| Public sector | 39 | D.C., St. Louis, Colorado Springs, Omaha, Honolulu; many ask for a clearance |
| Enterprise | 28 | Sales, product and engineering for company customers |
| Gen AI | 23 | 15 of these are Gen AI Operations |
| GPS (outside the US) | 18 | Doha, Riyadh, Dubai, London |
| University | 7 | 3 summer 2027 internships, 4 new grad roles |
The clearance count matters if you are job hunting. 37 of the 188 postings mention a security clearance, and 33 of those are on public sector teams. If you do not hold a clearance, about a fifth of the board is hard to reach.

How much does Scale AI pay, according to its own postings?
The typical US Scale AI posting on October 6, 2026 offered a base range of $198,400 to $258,000 a year, the median of the 120 US postings that publish a range. That sits below OpenAI ($252,000 to $370,000) and Anthropic ($305,000 to $402,500) on the same day’s reading, and close to Perplexity ($200,000 to $290,000).
The range on the board runs wide. The lowest yearly range was $68,000 to $85,000, for a Business Development Representative, Partnerships (Physical AI) role in New York. The highest was $396,800 to $496,000, for VP, Research.
These are posted base ranges, not offers. Our explainer on why salary ranges are so wide and our ranking of which AI company pays the most show how to read them.
Can you get an entry-level job at Scale AI?
Only a handful of roles fit: on October 6, 2026, Scale AI’s University department had 7 postings, 3 summer 2027 internships and 4 new grad software roles, in San Francisco, London and Doha. The two San Francisco new grad postings list $124,000 to $162,000.
Both new grad roles ask for “a graduation date in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027” with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, plus previous internship experience. The intern postings ask for graduation in Fall 2027 or Spring 2028. All 7 ask for a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a field such as computer science.
One rule on every posting is worth knowing before you apply. All 188 postings say “Our policy requires a 90-day waiting period before reconsidering candidates for the same role.” A rushed application can cost you three months.

Is Scale AI the same company as Outlier?
Outlier is run by Scale AI: on October 6, 2026, Outlier’s homepage said “Outlier is a platform operated by Scale AI” that connects experts with AI companies to give feedback on language models. That contributor work is a separate track from the 188 jobs on Scale’s careers board.
This matters because many people who search “is Scale AI hiring” mean the flexible AI training work. That runs through Outlier, not through the Greenhouse board we counted. We looked at that kind of work in are AI training jobs legit and in our check of whether xAI’s AI tutor job is legit.
To stay safe, apply on the company’s own pages. Scale’s postings live on its Greenhouse board and also open under scale.com/careers; we confirmed one, the San Francisco new grad role, on October 6. A real employer will not ask you to pay for training or equipment.

How we counted: open roles are the postings on Scale AI’s public Greenhouse board at the time of each daily reading. US roles are postings with at least one US location. “Remote in the text” means the posting says “fully remote” or “This is a remote position”; we read each match by eye.
