Robot Dog Prices in 2026: From ≈$2,900 to ≈$71,000 — and Spot Still Has No Price Tag

On May 8, 2026, a four-legged robot was sold at a GS25 convenience store in Seoul. Next to the rice balls and canned coffee, a Unitree Go2 AIR was rung up for ₩4,760,000 (≈$3,400) — the first convenience-store sale of a quadruped robot in Korea.
The same robot listed at ₩3,990,000 (≈$2,850) at an online retailer when I checked on the morning of August 9, 2026 — the convenience store had been ₩770,000 (≈$550) dearer. And Unitree’s official price list says $1,600, which converts to roughly ₩2.26M. One robot, three prices, all real at the same time.
Search “robot dog price” and a $30 toy shares the screen with a $100,000 industrial machine. So this piece takes only the quadrupeds you can actually check out and pay for in Korea today, opens each seller one by one, writes down the prices, and runs the full landed-cost math on importing. Figures verified August 9, 2026; dollar figures in parentheses are approximate, at about ₩1,400 per dollar.
The short version: The realistic entry price for a robot dog in Korea’s domestic market is the Unitree Go2 AIR at ₩3,990,000 (≈$2,850). Import the $1,600 official version and duty, VAT, and freight bring it to about ₩3.35M (≈$2,400) — only ₩640,000 (≈$460) saved, and on the expensive-freight scenario the import actually costs ₩370,000 (≈$260) more. That is the exact opposite of the humanoid case, where importing saved millions of won. Two traps to know before paying: the AIR and PRO trims cannot run your code (no secondary development), and a spare battery costs ₩1.31M–₩1.74M (≈$930–$1,240) — a third of the robot. And the most-searched name of all, Boston Dynamics’ Spot, has no public price at all in 2026.
1. Why “$30” and “$100,000” both answer the same search
The confusion has a simple cause: “robot dog” names three completely different kinds of object. Split the layers first, and you can see which shelf you are actually shopping on.

The top results for “robot puppy” on shopping sites are the first row — toys. Order one expecting the robot from the stair-climbing YouTube videos and a very different box arrives. The realistic starting price for a machine that walks on four legs and climbs stairs is ₩3,990,000.
2. I opened all four Korean sales channels — one showed prices
This is where most buying guides stop. They write “the Unitree Go2 is $1,600” and end — but nowhere in Korea sells it at that number. Here is every channel known to carry Unitree, opened the same morning:

Even the official Korean partner does not publish prices. B2B quote channels are the default in this market, and the one storefront where an individual can see a number and pay a card is effectively one retailer. All the math below uses those live retail prices as the domestic baseline.
The ₩3M-range marketplace listings are mostly overseas proxy purchases: no domestic service, possibly different bundles, terms that vary seller by seller. If you go that route, get three things confirmed in writing — authenticity, exact bundle contents, and who provides after-sales service.
Retail terms as listed: 3–7 day delivery, ₩3,000 shipping, “domestically imported genuine goods.” The warranty sits right in the product page’s own copy: the X and PRO carry 12 months of free service, the AIR six months. A two-times warranty gap, printed in the seller’s own words — and I could not find another buying guide that quotes it.
One practical caution: robots at this price are often procured to order rather than kept on a shelf, so the stock badge on a product page is not a promise. Before paying, ask the seller to confirm live stock and the actual ship date in writing.
3. AIR · PRO · X · EDU: what each step down leaves out
The most important table in this article. Picking by name alone is how people end up without the one feature they wanted. Cross-checked between Unitree’s official spec table and the RoboZaps trim review:

The costliest line in that table is not the price row — it is the SDK row. If the plan is “buy a robot and try something in Python,” AIR and PRO leave the shortlist. Unitree’s own spec table marks secondary development as unsupported on both trims, a distinction that is hard to find on the retail pages.
Trim choice in one line. Watch-and-enjoy → AIR (₩3.99M). Outdoor walks and voice → PRO (₩5.99M). Loading code → X and up. The two most common ways to waste this money: buying an AIR to develop on, and buying a PRO to use only indoors.
4. The import math — the opposite verdict from humanoids
When we ran this same calculation on a humanoid — the Unitree R1 — importing saved about ₩3.77M. Same method here: 8% duty, then 10% VAT, at the day’s verified rate (1 USD = ₩1,412.20), general customs clearance, with freight modeled on the two tiers overseas sellers quote: $399 and $1,000.

The conclusion is plain: at quadruped prices, importing has almost no edge. Six hundred thousand won at best, and one freight tier away from negative. Then stack the intangibles on top:
- Warranty: an imported unit has no domestic service network — a breakdown means round-trip international shipping on a 15 kg machine, which alone can swallow the savings.
- Lead time: 3–7 days domestic vs 2–4 weeks including customs.
- Radio law: a personal import is exempt from conformity assessment for one unit per model, but reselling within one year of arrival violates the law. Any thought of flipping it later disqualifies the import route.
Import verdict. Unlike the humanoid case (₩3.77M–₩8.36M saved), at Go2 prices domestic purchase is close to the answer — the gap disappears with a single service round-trip. The pattern behind the two opposite results: the cheaper the product, the larger the fixed costs of freight and customs loom.
5. Money the price tag doesn’t show: batteries, controller, and the rental break-even
Budget from the sticker alone and the plan breaks. Accessory prices, pulled from the same retailer:

A spare battery costing a third of the robot is emphasized on no sales page I could find. If you imagined an all-day robot, the real budget is closer to ₩5.3M (≈$3,800) than ₩3.99M.
Meanwhile the same retailer lists a Go2 PRO one-day rental at ₩550,000 (≈$390). For events and shoots that can be the answer, so here is the break-even:

Break-even lands at about 11 days. Ten days or fewer of planned use: rent. A one-day event obviously favors ₩550K over ₩5.99M — and a month-plus of content shoots flips to purchase inside two weeks.
6. Why Spot has no price — the truth behind the most-searched name
The most-searched follow-up to “robot dog price” is “Spot price.” The only honest answer in 2026: there is no public price list.
I opened Boston Dynamics’ official Spot page. Configuration options — the arm, payloads, inspection/research/hazard-response packages — are described in detail. Not one dollar figure appears, and every button reads “Contact Sales.” (For the record, shop.bostondynamics.com sells plush toys and merch, not robots.)
Numbers do exist — but sort them by what they actually are:

That is why articles scatter across wildly different figures — they quote different years and different configurations. Boston Dynamics also states its robots are not for private, non-commercial purchase. For an individual, there is effectively no path to buying a Spot.
So for an individual buyer, Spot is not a choice at all. The market’s most-searched name is not actually on the menu — the biggest illusion in this market.
7. Before you pay: a five-point check
- Write the use case in one sentence. “Watch and enjoy” → AIR. “Outdoor walks and filming” → PRO. “Load my code” → X and up. If the sentence won’t write itself, it is not time to buy.
- Settle the SDK question first. Any thought of Python or ROS removes AIR and PRO from the list. No later upgrade fixes this.
- Add the battery to the budget. The honest number includes a ₩1.31M spare — or you accept “1–2 hours, then charge.”
- Count your days. Under 11 days of planned use, price the ₩550K/day rental first.
- Get warranty and stock confirmed in writing before ordering. AIR’s free warranty is half of PRO/X’s, and stock lines at this price point are not always live — ask for the actual ship date and warranty term by text or email.
8. The cons first — what reviewers agree on
The upside comes through in any video. What a purchase decision needs is the other side — the points that repeat across hands-on reviews:
① Practicality is not the point. UK reviewer FauxHammer titled a Go2 Pro review “WHAT IS THE POINT!?” — and while scoring it 4 out of 5, the conclusion was blunt: buy it for fun, novelty, and an interest in robotics; do not buy it expecting practical use. It will not do chores.
② The camera can’t look up. The fixed front camera angles downward, so getting an upward view is hard. If you imagined patrolling the house remotely, temper the expectation.
③ Voice recognition and obstacle avoidance are inconsistent — commands miss, and the avoidance is sometimes overly cautious or simply confused.
④ The software is rough. RoboZaps logged app bugs, a firmware update that temporarily broke app-robot pairing, slow official support, and a firmware path that still depends on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
⑤ Safety is real. Fifteen kilograms moving fast can hurt someone. If children are around, do not skim this line.
9. So who should buy what
Content, events, storefront draw → Go2 PRO (₩5.99M). Voice, 4G, and side-follow are what make “robot interacts with people” scenes possible. Under 11 days of use, check the rental first.
First robot experience → Go2 AIR (₩3.99M). Walking, running, stairs — the quadruped experience itself, in full. In exchange: no voice, control ends at Wi-Fi range, and the warranty is six months.
Research, development, education → Go2 X or above, or the AgiBot D1 EDU (₩10.39M). AIR and PRO take no code; under-buying a tier stalls the project before it starts.
Came for a Spot → there is no private path. Institutions get quotes; individuals realistically look at the consumer tiers above.
Wanted a chore robot → it isn’t a robot dog. Coldly: in August 2026 the only robot doing real household labor is the robot vacuum. A robot dog is a moving hobby, not a working machine.
One-line verdict. The realistic entry price is ₩3.99M (≈$2,850), the honest budget with a spare battery is about ₩5.3M (≈$3,800), importing no longer pays at this price level, and if development is the goal, AIR and PRO are the wrong buys. Expect usefulness and any trim will disappoint — this is a superb walker, not a worker.
